VERY REV CANON GERARD WALSH

Canon Walsh died in Park House Nursing Home on 23rd April 1977. He had been ill for some months. The Canon was born in Liverpool on 22nd March 1909. His early education was at St. Francis de Sales and The Catholic Institute, Liverpool. After studies at Upholland and Fribourg he was ordained at St. Monica's, Bootle on 4th April 1937. He returned to Upholland to teach and became Vice-Rector in 1949. In October 1957 he was appointed as parish priest of Sacred Heart, Wigan, and an Honorary Canon in 1966, later becoming a Titular Canon of the Chapter. He was elected as first Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council of Clergy, a position he still held at the time of his death. May he rest in peace.
