Fr Tom Bradley MBE was born in Litherland on 18th October 1933. His early education was at English Martyrs School, Litherland, before entering Upholland College where he studied for 13 years. He was ordained to the priesthood in the College Chapel on 11th June 1960.
He served at St Philomena’s parish, Sparrow Hall Road, Liverpool from 1960-66 and joined the Army as Chaplain on 26th April 1966. His first appointment within H.M. Forces was to work with the British Forces in Osnabruck, West Germany. During this period he was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen. He also served with the Forces in Northern Ireland and in the Far East where he assisted in the close-down of the British Base in Singapore. He later worked as a Chaplain to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, for 3 years.
In 1979 he served a 12 month posting as Senior R.C. Chaplain to H.M. Forces in Northern Ireland before taking up responsibilities in Minden, West Germany, at the beginning of 1980.
Major Tom Bradley was killed in a car accident in Alexandria, Egypt on Sunday 13th January 1980, while accompanying the official party who were delivering a mobile dispensary unit, Survive 30, to its destination in Ethiopia. May he rest in peace.
