CANON PATRICK HANRAHAN

Canon Hanrahan, remembered with affection by generations of students at Upholland College, was born in Ardfinnan in 1905. After studies at the Christian Brothers School, Clonmel, and Mt. Melleray, he entered the seminary at All Hallows, Dublin, where he was ordained in June 1928. After a short stay as an assistant at Lydiate, he went to the University at Fribourg to study Canon Law, graduating with a Doctorate. He was appointed to teach Canon Law and Moral Theology at Upholland College in 1933. He suffered an incapacitating illness in 1942 and was only able to return to work in 1945. In 1964 he was made an Honorary Canon. He retired in July 1975. He collapsed and died while visiting the College on 12th July 1978, and lies buried in the graveyard there. May he rest in peace.
