MONSIGNOR JOSEPH TURNER

Joseph Turner was born in Walton-le-dale, Lancashire, on 17th May, 1892. His parents were Charles Edward Turner and Mary Alice Driver. He was educated at Our Lady & St Patrick's School, Walton-le-dale and St Augustine's, Preston. He studied for the priesthood at St Edward's College, Liverpool; St Joseph's College, Upholland, and Ushaw and Oscott Colleges. He was ordained at St Philip Neri's, Liverpool, on 10th July 1921. After Ordination he studied at St Edmund's House, Cambridge (1921-24) and then took up his post at Upholland College as a professor. He became Headmaster of the College in 1928, Vice-Rector in 1939, and then Rector in 1942, when he was created a Domestic Prelate. He remained at Upholland until April 1958 when he moved to SS Peter & Paul's in Crosby as Parish Priest. In June 1969 he became Chaplain to Ince Blundell Hall where he died on 19th April, 1982. May he rest in peace.
