FATHER GERARD WESTON M.B.E.

Only two weeks after the news that Fr. Weston had been awarded the M.B.E. for gallantry in Northern Ireland came the tragic news that he had been killed in the terrorist outrage at Aldershot. He was born in Crosby in 1933. He went to St. Mary's College, before going to Upholland. In 1960, he was ordained in his home parish of SS Peter and Paul's, and after a couple of months supply work at Holy Cross, St. Helens, he was appointed to St. Benedict's, Hindley. After seven years, he joined the Army as a chaplain and in his five years' service had worked in many different parts of the world. Just before his death he had returned from Kenya and was due to serve again in Northern Ireland. He was killed on February 22nd. 1973, aged 38 years. May he rest in peace.
